Ingredients
For the Dough:
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/45°C)
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
For the Filling:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
For the Glaze:
- 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp milk (for desired consistency)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- Add melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
- Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
- Make the Filling:
- In a small bowl, mix softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon to form a spreadable paste.
- Assemble the Rolls:
- Roll out the risen dough into a 12×18-inch rectangle on a floured surface.
- Spread the cinnamon-sugar filling evenly over the dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log, starting from the long edge.
- Cut into 12 even slices and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Let the Rolls Rise:
- Cover the dish with a clean towel and let the rolls rise for 30–45 minutes until puffy.
- Bake the Rolls:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the rolls for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Prepare the Glaze:
- In a bowl, whisk together cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Glaze and Serve:
- Spread the glaze over warm cinnamon rolls.
