Cabbage and Sausage Skillet

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450 g) smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced
  • 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large carrot, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Sausage
    Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned on both sides, about 5 minutes. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Sauté the Vegetables
    In the same skillet, add olive oil or butter. Sauté the diced onion and garlic until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Add the sliced carrot (if using) and cook for another 3–4 minutes.
  3. Cook the Cabbage
    Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. Stir well to combine with the onions and carrots. Cover and cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender.
  4. Season and Combine
    Add the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, crushed red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Mix well. Return the sausage to the skillet and stir to combine. Cook for an additional 3–5 minutes until everything is heated through.
  5. Serve
