Korean Spicy Chicken – Khin’s Kitchen

Korean Spicy Chicken from Khin’s Kitchen is a deliciously spicy and savory dish packed with bold flavors. It features tender chicken coated in a sweet and spicy sauce made from gochujang (Korean chili paste), garlic, and soy sauce. Here’s how to make it!

Ingredients:

For the Chicken:

  • 1 lb (450 g) chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ½ cup (60 g) cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

For the Sauce:

  • 3 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, minced
  • 1 tbsp water (for thinning the sauce, if needed)

For Garnish:

  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, chopped

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chicken:
    • Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper.
    • In a shallow bowl, coat the chicken with beaten egg, then dredge it in cornstarch, ensuring it’s well-coated.
  2. Fry the Chicken:
    • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
    • Add the chicken pieces in batches and cook until golden brown and crispy (about 4-5 minutes per side).
    • Remove from the skillet and set aside on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  3. Make the Sauce:
    • In the same skillet, add sesame oil and sauté minced garlic and ginger over medium heat for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
    • Stir in gochujang, soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey (or brown sugar), and a little water if the sauce is too thick.
    • Let the sauce simmer for 2-3 minutes until it thickens and becomes glossy.
  4. Toss the Chicken in the Sauce:
    • Return the fried chicken pieces to the skillet.
    • Toss the chicken in the spicy sauce until evenly coated, cooking for another 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to combine.
  5. Garnish and Serve:
    • Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
    • Serve with steamed rice and enjoy the spicy, sweet, and savory goodness!

Tips:

  • Adjust the amount of gochujang to control the level of spice.
  • Add a dash of soy sauce or more honey to balance the flavors if needed.
  • For extra crunch, you can double fry the chicken—fry the chicken once, let it rest for a few minutes, and then fry it again for an extra crispy texture.

This Korean Spicy Chicken is sure to become a favorite with its bold flavors and satisfying crunch!
