For the Cream Cheese Glaze:
- 4 ounces cream cheese (softened)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
- ¾ cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1–2 tablespoons milk (to thin, as needed)
Instructions
Step 1: Make the Dough
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, egg, egg yolk, and melted butter. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
- Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
Step 2: Prepare the Blueberry Filling
- In a small bowl, mix the sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon.
- Toss the blueberries in the mixture until evenly coated.
Step 3: Assemble the Rolls
- Roll the dough into a 12×18-inch rectangle on a floured surface. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough.
- Sprinkle the blueberry mixture across the buttered surface.
- Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Slice into 12 equal rolls using a sharp knife or dental floss.
- Arrange the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let them rise for 30–45 minutes until puffy.
Step 4: Bake
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the rolls for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
Step 5: Make the Cream Cheese Glaze
- In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk. Mix until creamy.
Step 6: Serve
- Spread the cream cheese glaze over the warm rolls.
- Serve fresh and enjoy!
Tips for Perfect Blueberry Cinnamon Rolls
- Keep It Neat: Use dental floss to cut the rolls for clean slices.
- Prevent Soggy Rolls: Drain excess liquid from thawed blueberries to keep the filling from leaking.
- Make Ahead: Prepare the rolls the night before, cover, and refrigerate. Let them come to room temperature and rise before baking.
