Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • ¾ cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)
  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the Blueberry Filling:

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries (if frozen, thaw and drain)
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)

For the Cream Cheese Glaze:

  • 4 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1–2 tablespoons milk (to thin, as needed)

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Dough

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, egg, egg yolk, and melted butter. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
  3. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1½ hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 2: Prepare the Blueberry Filling

  1. In a small bowl, mix the sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon.
  2. Toss the blueberries in the mixture until evenly coated.

Step 3: Assemble the Rolls

  1. Roll the dough into a 12×18-inch rectangle on a floured surface. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough.
  2. Sprinkle the blueberry mixture across the buttered surface.
  3. Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Slice into 12 equal rolls using a sharp knife or dental floss.
  4. Arrange the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let them rise for 30–45 minutes until puffy.

Step 4: Bake

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake the rolls for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

Step 5: Make the Cream Cheese Glaze

  1. In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk. Mix until creamy.

Step 6: Serve

  1. Spread the cream cheese glaze over the warm rolls.
  2. Serve fresh and enjoy!

Tips for Perfect Blueberry Cinnamon Rolls

  • Keep It Neat: Use dental floss to cut the rolls for clean slices.
  • Prevent Soggy Rolls: Drain excess liquid from thawed blueberries to keep the filling from leaking.
  • Make Ahead: Prepare the rolls the night before, cover, and refrigerate. Let them come to room temperature and rise before baking.

Indulge in these warm, gooey rolls with a cup of coffee or tea!
