Ingredients
For the Sausage Patties:
- 1 lb breakfast sausage (mild or spicy)
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- ½ teaspoon onion powder (optional)
For the Sandwiches:
- 4 English muffins
- 4 large eggs
- 4 slices American cheese (or cheddar if preferred)
- Butter (for toasting the muffins)
Instructions
Step 1: Make the Sausage Patties
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
- Shape the breakfast sausage into 4 equal-sized patties, pressing them slightly to match the size of your English muffins.
- Season each patty with black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder (if using).
- Cook the sausage patties in the skillet for about 4-5 minutes per side or until they are fully cooked through and browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
Step 2: Cook the Eggs
- In a small skillet or non-stick frying pan, spray lightly with cooking spray or add a small amount of butter.
- Crack each egg into the skillet and cook to your desired doneness (over-easy, over-medium, or well-done). To make them round like McDonald’s, you can use an egg ring or a round cookie cutter to help shape them.
- Place one slice of cheese on top of each egg while it’s still in the pan to let it melt. Once melted, remove from the skillet and set aside.
Step 3: Toast the English Muffins
- Slice the English muffins in half.
- Lightly butter the cut sides of the muffins and toast them in the skillet or in a toaster until golden brown.
Step 4: Assemble the McMuffins
- Place a sausage patty on the bottom half of each toasted English muffin.
- Top the sausage with a cheesy egg.
- Place the top half of the muffin on the sandwich to complete the McMuffin.
Step 5: Serve
- Serve immediately while hot. Enjoy your homemade Sausage, Egg, & Cheese McMuffins with a side of hashbrowns or fresh fruit!
Tips for Success
- Egg Rings: If you want perfectly round eggs like the McDonald’s version, use an egg ring or a small can with both ends removed.
- Sausage Alternatives: You can substitute the sausage with bacon or turkey sausage for a leaner version.
- Make-Ahead: You can prep the sausage patties and eggs in advance and store them in the fridge. Assemble the sandwiches quickly when you’re ready to eat.
