Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Servings: 4

Ingredients

For the Beef and Broccoli:

  • 1 lb (450g) flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)

For the Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional, for sweetness)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp ginger, grated (or 1/4 tsp ground ginger)
  • 1/2 cup beef broth (or water)

For the Ramen:

  • 2 packs of instant ramen noodles (discard the seasoning packet)
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Ramen
    • Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the ramen noodles and cook according to the package instructions, usually about 3 minutes. Drain the noodles and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Beef and Broccoli
    • While the noodles are cooking, heat 1 tbsp of olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
    • Add the sliced beef to the pan in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside.
    • In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil. Add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until the broccoli is bright green and slightly tender. If using frozen broccoli, cook until heated through and tender.
  3. Make the Sauce
    • In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and beef broth.
    • Pour the sauce into the skillet with the broccoli and bring to a simmer. Let it cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
  4. Combine the Beef and Ramen
    • Add the cooked beef back to the skillet with the broccoli and sauce. Stir everything together to coat the beef and broccoli in the sauce.
    • Add the cooked ramen noodles to the skillet, tossing gently to combine everything. If the dish seems dry, add a little more beef broth or water to reach your desired consistency.
  5. Serve
    • Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving. Serve immediately.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve with a side of steamed dumplings or spring rolls for an Asian-inspired meal.
  • Pair with a light salad of mixed greens and a sesame dressing.

Tips and Variations

  • Add Veggies: You can add other vegetables such as bell peppers, carrots, or snow peas to the stir-fry for more color and nutrition.
  • For Extra Flavor: A splash of chili oil or a sprinkle of red pepper flakes can add some heat to the dish.
  • Make it Gluten-Free: Use gluten-free soy sauce and ramen noodles to make this dish gluten-free.
