Hot Honey Chicken

Ingredients:

For the Chicken:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (or regular breadcrumbs)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Hot Honey Sauce:

  • ½ cup honey
  • 1–2 tbsp hot sauce (adjust to heat preference, such as Sriracha or Frank’s RedHot)
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (optional for extra smoky flavor)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chicken
    • Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper.
    • In one shallow dish, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
    • In another shallow dish, beat the eggs.
    • In a third shallow dish, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  2. Coat the Chicken
    • Dredge each piece of chicken in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Dip in the beaten eggs, then coat thoroughly in the breadcrumbs.
  3. Fry the Chicken
    • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Once the oil is hot, add the breaded chicken and cook for 4–5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
    • Remove the chicken from the skillet and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  4. Make the Hot Honey Sauce
    • In a small saucepan, combine the honey, hot sauce, apple cider vinegar (or lemon juice), and smoked paprika (if using).
    • Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, and cook for 3–5 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. Coat the Chicken
    • Drizzle the hot honey sauce over the fried chicken or toss the chicken in the sauce to coat it evenly.
  6. Serve
    • Serve immediately with your favorite side dishes like roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a simple salad.

Tips:

  • Adjust the Heat: For a milder version, reduce the amount of hot sauce or use a less spicy variety.
  • Make It Extra Crispy: Double bread the chicken by dipping it in the egg and breadcrumbs twice before frying.
  • Side Pairing: This dish pairs well with coleslaw, steamed broccoli, or rice for a complete meal.
