Grilled Steak Recipe
Grilling a steak to perfection is simple and brings out its natural flavors. Follow this guide for a juicy and flavorful steak with a smoky char.
Ingredients
- 2 (10-12 oz) steaks (ribeye, sirloin, or strip)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
Optional:
- Fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs
- 2 tbsp butter for finishing
Instructions
- Preheat the Grill:
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 450-500°F / 230-260°C). Ensure the grates are clean and lightly oiled to prevent sticking.
- Prepare the Steaks:
- Pat the steaks dry with paper towels.
- Rub both sides with olive oil.
- Season generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika, ensuring even coverage.
- Let the steaks rest at room temperature for 15-20 minutes for even cooking.
- Grill the Steaks:
- Place the steaks on the grill and cook for 4-5 minutes on the first side without moving them to achieve a good sear.
- Flip the steaks and cook for another 3-5 minutes, depending on your preferred doneness:
- Rare: 125°F (52°C)
- Medium-rare: 135°F (57°C)
- Medium: 145°F (63°C)
- Well-done: 160°F (71°C)
- Rest the Steaks:
- Remove the steaks from the grill and place them on a cutting board. Tent loosely with foil and let them rest for 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute for maximum flavor.
- Optional Butter Finish:
- While the steak rests, place a pat of butter on top, optionally adding fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme for an aromatic touch.
- Serve:
- Slice the steak against the grain for tenderness or serve whole. Pair with your favorite sides like roasted vegetables, potatoes, or a fresh salad.
Tips for Success:
- Use a Meat Thermometer: This ensures perfect doneness without guessing.
- High-Quality Steaks: Select well-marbled cuts for the best flavor and tenderness.
- Char Marks: Rotate the steaks 45 degrees halfway through cooking on each side for professional-looking grill marks.
Enjoy your perfectly grilled steak!
