Ingredients

For the chicken:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika

For the orange sauce:

  • 1 cup fresh orange juice (about 2–3 oranges)
  • 2 tsp orange zest
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)
  • 1/2 tsp grated fresh ginger (optional)
  • 1 garlic clove, minced

For garnish (optional):

  • Orange slices
  • Chopped green onions
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken:
    • Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika on both sides.
    • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken and sear for 4–5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Make the orange sauce:
    • In the same skillet, add the orange juice, orange zest, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, ginger, and garlic. Stir well to combine.
    • Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for 2–3 minutes.
  3. Thicken the sauce:
    • Slowly add the cornstarch slurry to the simmering sauce, stirring constantly until it thickens. This should take about 1–2 minutes.
  4. Cook the chicken in the sauce:
    • Return the chicken breasts to the skillet, spoon the sauce over them, and simmer for another 5–7 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked (internal temperature reaches 165°F/74°C).
  5. Serve:
    • Transfer the chicken to a serving plate and drizzle with the orange sauce. Garnish with orange slices, green onions, or sesame seeds if desired.
